Thanks man! No doubt on the knowledge experience thing, it's been probably 6 or more years since I operated a website of my own (proteinstore.com) that wasn't related to our web business, it was a fun change up and definitely gave all of us a different perspective on things.

Great Post!

Even though you had to pull the plug on the project, you gained valuable knowledge and experience. I'll be keeping an eye on the next project you roll out because it will have a solid foundation.

Honestly I would have probably spent some time investigation BuddyPress, Wordpress MU, and even Drupal. I don't think that I would have been wooed away by Drupal but BuddyPress and Wordpress MU both have some advantages that we might could have deployed down the road and avoided a migration, etc. On the business model itself, I have been ordered by those that know me and love me to keep my mouth shut, but I will admit there are a few things that we could have done, but launching a project like that and getting on the national radar as fast as we did, the outcome wouldn't have been a lot different looking back. A lot of people were speculating why and all of that but honestly there was no one reason we pulled the project, the number for me personally was closer to 2 million (according to one advisor) and from that point on I have been convinced it was the right thing to do to do what we did, lol... It wasn't until I had everything explained to me a few times by some big-time corporate folks before I cooled down though I promise you!!!
