The Toadsuck Toe Sucker!

Hide your kids,
Hide your wife,
Hide your husbands,
because they are sucking everybody’s toes up in here!

I would be remiss if I let every media publication in the country, from Gawker to the Daily Show, weigh-in on this whacky story originating from right here in my hometown, Conway, Arkansas. What’s the story you ask? Well, let’s just say we have a 50yr old pot-bellied male that’s reportedly running around town and sucking on women’s toes. Yep, this guy is seriously running around sucking on women’s toes and everyone that I have talked to around town about this has a bad case of the giggles.

Now, before I go any further, I should state for the record that I am opposed to toe sucking, and I do think it’s probably one of the craziest fetishes I have ever heard about, but to each their own. I heard on the news the other night where it’s not even a felony, it’s just a misdemeanor. So I guess if this guy is caught in the act, with a mouthful of big toe, he could just get a ticket and told to go on his merry way. Also, before any of you get upset with me for making light of this heinous crime where there are obvious victims, let me say that I have sympathy for each of the women who were victimized by this guy. Furthermore, I hope the Conway Police Department makes an arrest on the guy if for no other reason than I want to be able to wear open toe shoes again.

The fact that a Google Image Search turned up this photo rather quickly, along with several that shocked even me, tells me that this whole toe sucking thing probably goes on a lot more than we realize...

The whole chain of events started this week when 3 women reported to the Conway Police Department that they had been approached by this man, who is reportedly either Asian or Hispanic (how does a guy suck on your toes and you not figure out his nationality?) who tells them they have pretty feet and then asks if he can suck their toes. In fact, I have heard from a couple of different sources that he convinced the elderly lady to go along w/ his plan and he loved on her piglets for close to half an hour before he stopped and asked her if he could kiss her, in which she then told him no and that he was weird (apparently being kissed is where  she drew the line?). Several media outlets from Central Arkansas immediately reported the story, here’s our hometown newspaper’s initial report of the story…

Well, you would think that having his deviant actions exposed to the world and on every evening newscast in the state that it would deter him, or at lease pressure him into slowing down or moving on to another town right? Nope, he went right back to the same shopping center that he visited previously in search of more toes. This time the police have a pretty good description of the guy as well as the make and model of his pickup truck. The shocking thing about this story though is that this isn’t the first time Conway has had a toe sucking problem, here’s a story from the archives where a man from Conway was arrested in Fayetteville, back then they nicknamed him the “Toe Suck Fairy”, everyone in town is wondering if it’s not the exact same guy. I guess time will tell on this. I will try to keep you guys that are out of state updated on this case via my Twitter and Facebook streams, as well as here on my blog.

Random Thought: Can you imagine walking up onto something like that? A wacky dude mugging down on some elderly woman’s hammer toes?

Now, keep in mind that this is not even the craziest story to come out of Central Arkansas this month, not by a longshot. Something a little more tragic happened this month, something I have refrained from blogging about, but it’s also so bizarre that it’s hard to walk away from. In Maumelle recently a dead guy wearing a dog collar was found in the bathtub with a local television weatherman. According to the homeowner, the two had reportedly been doing coke the night before. All I can say is that must have been some pretty crazy cocaine…

If anything else whacky happens this month I will be sure to point them out, but I just can’t imagine anything topping these two tales. I do have a question though, has anyone seen Dwight David Honeycutt lately??

The Wimpy’s Experience…

wimpys-250-forblogI have had several people ask me what they needed to order when they visit Wimpy’s Burgers & Fries for the first time on Monday, so I figured I would put together some high points that I highly recommend…

  • The Raspberry Milkshake – I personally had a hand in formulating this awesome milkshake! I can’t give away the trade secrets as to what makes it so awesome but I will just say this, the ice cream at Wimpy’s is about 6 times richer and creamier than any other ice crème in town. I will also say that the raspberry flavoring really puts this frozen delight in a league all to itself.
  • Wimpy’s Signature Double Cheeseburger – Prior to my involvement in this project I think I always knew that there were some burgers that were just consistently better than other burgers but I never gave it a lot of thought as to why that was. I learned that if you want to make a great burger, you can’t concern yourself with food costs, or what’s the healthiest. When engineering a masterpiece like the Wimpy’s Signature Double (also comes in a triple) you have to pay close attention to detail and let your taste buds guide the process the entire way. Little details you will notice about the sourdough bun or the overall flavor of the beef itself didn’t just come about, hours upon hours of trial and error have gone into making this masterpiece!
  • Bats & Balls – This is probably one of my absolute favorite appetizers of all time. If you like Fried Cheese, you have to check out this awesome appetizer! I will leave it at that…

Wimpy’s Opening Monday!

wimpys-250-forblogI can’t count the number of emails, text messages, tweets, and telephone calls that I have gotten this week wondering if Wimpy’s Burgers & Fries was open yet. Up until this week I have answered w/ the standard, it’s going to be two weeks response. In fact, several of you have been quick to point out that we have been saying two weeks for the past two months!

Well, the wait is over! Wimpy’s will be opening it’s doors on Monday, January 11th. We want to thank all of you for not losing interest along the way while we wrestled with a variety of internal projects ranging from underground plumbing to point of sale software! One afternoon we even found ourselves in the parking lot, completely locked out of the building because the doors had malfunctioned. While trying to gain entry our puppy somehow gouged his eye with something while we weren’t looking and the entire remainder of the afternoon was spent at the emergency animal clinic in Maumelle tending to him! This transpired about a month ago and he just had surgery on the eye yesterday and is recovering well w/ one eye sewn up and a lampshade over his head. Poor dog.

Don’t get me wrong, being a part of this project has been an awesome experience for Donna and I both. I have learned so many things about the foodservice industry that I didn’t have a clue 6 about months ago. One minute we might be troubleshooting receipt printers and the next trying to perfect the Raspberry Shake! Donna has also had a blast experimenting to formulate the perfect recipe for wedding cake cupcakes!

The plan for Monday is that it will be our soft opening to allow our team to get all of the kinks worked out before we have our grand opening, etc. Stay tuned for more information as things evolve, but if your stomach starts growling Monday morning, head on over and have yourself a Signature Wimpy Burger!!!  Also, be sure to follow Wimpy’s on Twitter and Facebook for your chance to be picked at random to win free food!

A lot of you have also asked about Franchise Opportunities, at this point we don’t quite have everything packaged but we should have in the very near future. For the time being, if you are interested, please visit the Wimpy’s Corporate Website and complete the form there w/ your contact information and once things settle down someone will follow up with you…

Central Interactive 2011 Announced

central-interactive-logoIf you follow my blog you are probably already aware that a group of us have been discussing the idea of establishing a large tech conference here in central Arkansas. We have also received a lot of press coverage pertaining to this idea, last year in The Arkansas Times and most recently in the Arkansas Democrat-Gazette. Well, this past week we had our first planning session with the steering committee at the Conway Area Chamber of Commerce and I was floored by the awesome turnout we had as well as the level of enthusiasm. I think this crazy idea might be within reach…

During our first meeting we didn’t get as much accomplished as we would have liked so we opted to form some committees in our Basecamp and everyone break out into groups to help work toward various goals. I think we have over 30 registered users in our basecamp as of right now and the interaction this past week has been phenomenal. If you were unable to attend our initial planning session and would like to be involved in the early stages of planning this huge event, please feel free to drop me a comment below and I will see to it that you are added to our Basecamp. Also, thanks to Arlton Lowry, we now have a logo to serve as our initial branding, and we hope to have a temporary website up this next week! Stay tuned as this project evolves…

Also, we now have a wufoo form online for volunteers to signup to be on our committees, we have many roles available and could really use your help! Click here to signup…

Toadsuck Daze 2011 Gowalla Stamp

stamp-toad_suck_2011_100I just received a proof of the 2011 Gowalla Stamp for Toadsuck Daze 2011 today and it looks great. Big shout out to Gowalla for supporting Toadsuck Daze and the Toadsuck Tweetup. To get this custom stamp you have to check in on Gowalla during this years festival while downtown at Toadsuck Square. There is a good possibility we will have a tweetup this year like we did last year, hopefully this year the tornados and severe weather will stay away! Stay tuned for more info about the possible tweetup…

Conference Planning / Steering Committee Meetup

We got an overwhelming response to the idea of bringing a large tech conference to Central Arkansas so let’s take the next step and have a meetup! (see the related blog post)

Update: 03/23/2011 – This is a working version / tentative agenda for the planning session on Monday, March 28th at the Conway Area Chamber of Commerce. If you haven’t already RSVP’d you should do so now (see the bottom of this post) because we only have a few slots remaining for this initial meetup…

Proposed Agenda – March 28th

Update: 03/18/2011 – We are planning to get together on Monday the 28th for a working lunch at The Conway Chamber of Commerce to discuss this idea and gather your input. If you are interested in attending, please complete the form below to let us know so we can give the Chamber an accurate number to expect. (lunch may also be provided, stay tuned for more info)

Large Tech Conference in Conway?

sci-graphicA while back I blogged about having a large tech conference in central Arkansas, later I was asked to write an article for the Arkansas Times regarding my idea for a large tech conference in central Arkansas, you can read my post about the idea here, and my Arkansas Times article here. The article in the Times resulted in several phone calls from groups and organizations wishing to extend their support to the idea, one of those organizations was the Conway Area Chamber of Commerce / Conway Convention & Visitors Bureau.

Later this month we are having our first planning meeting to hash out this idea and put a game plan in action, if you are interested in being a part of our steering committee for this idea, please drop me a comment below and we will get your name added to the list. We want as much input from around the state that we can get, we want this to be a one of a kind tech event that will have an enormous impact on the state.

Also, you don’t have to be on the steering committee to have a role in this event, we would love to hear your suggestions regarding the name for this event. You can submit your name ideas via our wufoo form here, my personal favorite name suggestion came from Arlton, “South Central Interactive”.

Also, please feel free to drop your ideas / thoughts regarding this tech conference in the comment section below…

Gowalla Event Stamp for Toadsuck Daze

toadsuck-logoI just got confirmation last week from Gowalla that they are going to produce another custom event stamp for Toadsuck Daze this year! Some of you that attended last year may remember that they produced one for us last year as well. Unfortunately last years Toadsuck Daze was plagued by severe thunderstorms and tornados so only 25 people got the stamp last year. Hopefully the weather will cooperate a little better this year!

Toadsuck Daze will be held from April 29 – May 1st in downtown Conway. The headline act this year will be none other than our very own Kris Allen. For more information about Toadsuck Daze, you can visit the official website here… As soon as I have a proof as to what the stamp is going to look like, I will be sure to post it here so everyone can check it out before hand.  There has also been some talk about having another Toadsuck Tweetup this year but nothing has been confirmed yet, stay tuned for announcements…

Projects: Conway 2025

Another project I have been working on this past week is one for the Conway Chamber of Commerce for their Conway 2025 plan. I was pretty excited about this project because I was at the first breakfast meeting during the Conway Area Chamber of Commerce Business Expo with Steven Trotter when the plan was shared, we were both impressed. If you’re not familiar with what the Conway 2025 plan is all about, I highly recommend checking out the website, http://conway2025.com to download the PDF or read it online.

In a nutshell, the 2025 plan for Conway is a compilation of ideas, or improvements, that were put together by various community members who met and logged countless hours thinking of ways the city of Conway could be improved. These ideas were then organized into 7 different categories.

I built the website based upon the idea that since the plan was more or less a list of goals that the entire community could get behind and support as well as interacting with one another to work toward a common goal.  With this in mind I wanted to make sure that visitors to this website would be able to not only post comments to each other regarding the ideas outlined in each post, but they would also be able to use their Facebook, Twitter, Yahoo, or AOL accounts. Below you will find a screenshot of the project…

Since I haven’t unveiled the project to my client yet, I can’t post a live link to it yet, but stay tuned this next week for launch announcements…

Snow Day 2011 in Conway…

conway-snowThe 2011 winter season has been one for the record books for central Arkansas. This week we witnessed one of the biggest snow events we have seen in years, I personally have between 6-8 inches of snow in my backyard. Yesterday cabin fever set in and I absolutely had to get out of the house so we bundled up, grabbed the puppy and hit the streets. I carried along my camera so I could snap some shots of the winter wonderland, and I am glad I did.

When we turned onto College Street yesterday we glanced over to the hill behind the Conway Country Club and noticed about 200 people lined up on the side of the large slope sledding down the hill. My father in law, being just as big of a child as I am when it comes to snow couldn’t resist so we headed that direction. I snapped close to 100 photos yesterday. I shared a few on facebook but the rest can be found in a photo gallery I just posted here…
